Wednesday OOTD Inspiration: Rachel Green!

Inspiration from "Friends" Character Rachel Karen Green! The One After Joey and Rachel Kiss (10x1)

Top: Uniqlo
Skirt: DKNY
Purse: Louis Vuitton (strap has a ribbon tied to the end)
Necklace: Forever 21

Scent in the right picture: Life by Esprit
It's fun, flowery and a casual scent for chilling.

How to make it more?

Jewellery: Preppy with either the Butterfly by Matthew Williamson or this pale pink (almost nude) Jasper Conran.  The Butterfly will add an edge to the otherwise simple ootd with the triangles, whereas the J by Jasper Conran is a more classic look.

Shoes: Any summer shoe goes with this summer look.  Sandals are of course the best option and depending on the occasion, the sandal will make the look.  Two options are: Tory Burch Metallic Thong Sandal  for a more polished look (because of the gold), or a more casual/running errands sort-of- sandal from the Miller collection.  Now, I'm not exactly the massive-est fan of Tory Burch, but I do like the Miller collection-- it seems like something most Mums would wear, but at the same time, the colours are very appealing and summer-y without being overly bright and colourful.

What are some of your favourite OOTDs and inspirations? Do share!

Arts & Stuff: Miss Dior Showcase!

In the beginning of summer, my sister and I went to the Miss Dior Exhibition at the Shanghai Sculpture Space.  I was really excited because not only was this showcasing some of the Dior House's famous works, it was also a great opportunity to explore one of the more hipster places of Shanghai.  Unfortunately I'm not much of a hipster myself, but this was a great chance to explore the more artsy side of Shanghai.  This article offers more description about the exhibition and what its aims were.  I was super excited when I heard about this because it opened during the same time as the Shanghai International Film Festival and a lot of major celebrities and fashion icons were at the opening.  Its super exciting to see Shanghai becoming such an internationally recognised city and such an integral part of the fashion industry.

I would definitely recommend going to visit the Sculpture Space! Its slightly different than regular Shanghai because its more old fashioned, but its still located in the old French Concession so the European architecture and the layout of the buildings is still very reminiscent of the Old Shanghai.  There's even a Make Up Forever Academy in the area, so for those make up enthusiasts in the Shanghai area..... its definitely a place to stake out at (;

Of course they had to feature the Miss Dior parfum! I actually don't own this scent, which is odd because every time I see it I always make a beeline towards it.  You can't really tell from this picture because of the awful angle and terrible shooting skills, but the parfum was actually mounted from the ground in this  chic little exhibition booth. It perfectly captured the essence of timelessness and girliness that the perfume emulates.

Style Inspiration: Summer Glamour

Style Inspiration of the Day! Blair Waldorf

She will always be Queen B to me! Whether its in her school uniform or at the ballet, she is always impeccably dressed and the most put-together person.  (I know the show ended ages ago but style is timeless hehe).  Here's one (of many more posts to come) of my favourites that are classic yet embody the spirit of summer... and at the same time reminiscent of the Upper East Side's Queen.

Pocketful of Sunshine

She may not exactly be the brightest ray of sunshine in Manhattan, but this outfit definitely comes close! The yellow and orange colour combinations are perfect for the sunshine.  Although the patterns and colour scheme on the skirt might clash with the frills on the shirt, the orange Brian Atwood pumps and embossed leather tote are a great equaliser for both as it brings out the orange in the skirt as well as the simplicity of the top.   My personal choice for a skirt tweak would be a similar style this geometric print skirt from P.A.R.O.S.H.  Its a bit overwhelming and would probably require a less "loud" handbag or necklace and since it would look more casual, maybe a pair of sandals would go better instead of heels.

Although I adore the necklace the directors chose for this shot, there are a few other ones that I would have chosen to go with (I'll try to find where the actual necklace came from- the closest one I can get is this one from Juliet & Company):

Simple, yet different: this Orielle pearl necklace from Ashley Clarke doesn't exactly match the colour scheme of the outfit and the gold and pearl can be a bit much, so it might require slightly tweaking the outfit- maybe another skirt with less of a contrasting print, or a plain orange skirt instead.

Classic: Something Audrey Hepburn (and by extension, Blair Waldorf), would probably have a plethora of ... but its worth mentioning anyway.  This Givenchy White Pearl & Gold necklace is definitely something that would go well with any kind of outfit, whatever the occasion.
